John Harp – Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica, Songwriting
John Harp is the driving creative force behind CBRB, serving as lead vocalist, guitarist, harmonica player, and principal songwriter. With decades of experience both on stage and in the studio, John brings a depth of artistry and leadership that defines the band’s distinctive sound.
His musical style is rooted in blues and rock, coloured by folk traditions and global influences. Expressive guitar lines and soulful harmonica solos are hallmarks of his performances, while his songwriting blends strong melodies, lyrical storytelling, and inventive arrangements. John was the primary songwriter and producer of CBRB’s debut album, The Chronicles of Coogee Bay Road, and continues to create new material both individually and in collaboration with other band members.
John’s journey began at age 14, when he first picked up the guitar and discovered his passion for music. Soon after, he joined a male choir that toured internationally, performing in France and Germany and competing at a high level. That early experience established the foundation for a career defined by both performance and creativity.
Over the years, John has contributed to numerous bands and projects — including Drum Sticks, Glue, Kalamazoo, Locos, YKnot?, and Slagel — each expanding his musical horizons and honing his craft. His influences range from The Beatles, Dire Straits, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Queen, and Eric Clapton, to less expected sources such as Austrian folk and yodelling traditions. These diverse inspirations converge in his songwriting, creating music that feels at once familiar and fresh.
As CBRB’s frontman, John brings a commanding stage presence, balancing technical skill with genuine connection to audiences. His lyrics often weave interconnected narratives across songs, offering listeners not only melodies and rhythms to enjoy but also stories to follow and reflect on.
With a career built on passion, exploration, and relentless creativity, John Harp continues to lead CBRB forward — shaping a sound that is original, engaging, and festival-ready.
